Children’s 4-Week International Summer Camp Starts Friday
posted June 23, 2008

CISV (formerly known as Children’s International Summer Villages) is hosting a four-week international summer camp attended by children from 12 different nations in Chattanooga from June 27 - July 24.

Village Earth will be attended by delegations from Brazil, Costa Rica, Denmark, Guatemala, India, Italy, Norway, the Philippines, Spain, Sweden, Thailand and the US. Each delegation consists of four 11-year-olds (two boys and two girls) plus an adult leader. Six junior counselors, ages 16-17, are attending from Brazil, Finland, Italy, Sweden, and the U.S.

CISV uses an experiential learning model to build intercultural awareness and respect for cultural differences. Participants will form friendships while living together in a multicultural community. Participants will also go on several excursions during the Village and will have home stays with local families during two weekends.

The Village is called “Village Earth” because they are focusing on environmental awareness and its impact on CISV’s mission of promoting a more peaceful world.
