Chickamauga Battlefield Has 3 Interpretive Programs posted June 24, 2008 Three special interpretive programs will be held at Chickamauga Battlefield on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. All programs begin at the Chickamauga Battlefield Visitor Center. Participants are encouraged to wear comfortable walking shoes and bring a bottle of water. On Friday at 6:30 p.m. a park ranger will present “Company Aytch of the 1st Tennessee,” a walking tour covering where this Confederate infantry regiment fought on the battlefield. Battle action will be described through the words of Private Sam R. Watkins, a 1st Tennessee veteran who wrote one of the most famous memoirs of the Civil War entitled “Co. Aytch.” This program will last approximately two hours and will involve a one half mile walk. On Saturday at 10:30 a.m. a park ranger will lead a walking tour that follows the battle action of Confederate General William Bate’s Brigade, which saw heavy fighting during the Battle of Chickamauga. After the battle Bate described the Chickamauga Creek as a sluggish "River of Death." This program will last approximately two hours and will involve a quarter mile walk. On Sunday at 1:30 p.m. join a park ranger on a walking tour entitled “Snodgrass Hill”, which will examine the terrain of Snodgrass Hill and describe the dramatic battle action that occurred on this horseshoe shaped ridge.
