On a gorgeous June afternoon, approximately 400 friends of the Tennessee River Gorge Trust were greeted by Captain Morgan as they gathered to take a three-hour cruise through the heart of the Gorge. As guests boarded TVA's tug & barge known as the "Red Wagner" they enjoyed Lee Towery’s delicious hors d' oeuvres and the specialty "Jolly Roger" drinks.

As soon as we were on our way, Fletcher Bright and the Dismembered Tennesseans began to play and had guests on their feet and clapping along. Frances McDonald and Tim Prentice won an overnight stay at the Pot Point Cabin for “Best Costume,” while Joan and Dan Williams received a day rental for being first runner up!

In following our Green Initiative, extra efforts were made this year for everything used during the cruise to be recyclable, reusable or compostable. Corn plates and cups which are completely compostable (along with the food left on them) were used. Aluminum cans, glass, and plastic bottles were all separated and recycled the next day!

The weather was perfect and we had smooth sailing throughout the evening. The night could not have been more fun or festive! This is the perfect way to show each guest first-hand what our past, present & future objective is: to protect “Tennessee’s Grand Canyon.”

The Bargin’ for the Gorge dinner cruise is the Trust’s biggest fundraiser each year. All proceeds from this event go to help protect the ecological diversity, scenic beauty, and historic significance of the Gorge. Special thanks to our sponsors: TVA, First Tennessee Bank, Chattanooga Labeling Systems, Chattem, Olan Mills, and UBS Financial Services, Inc.

A very special THANK YOU to TVA and the Heavy Equipment Division for making the 9th Annual Bargin’ for the Gorge event a reality. TVA’s environmental appreciation, partnership, commitment, and philanthropic support for Tennessee’s Grand Canyon and the Chattanooga community at large are key to this successful event!
