15 Administrators Make More Than Mayor, County Mayor

Erlanger Medical Center officials are refusing to release salary figures for most of the public hospital's higher-paid employees.
Nancy Poston, vice president for marketing and customer relations, said she would only release figures for top administrators. She said Erlanger competes with other hospitals and the salaries are confidential information.
The list that was released gave only pay and positions, and did not include names.
Ms. Poston earlier said Erlanger has some 400 employees who make $60,000 or more.
The city and county governments earlier supplied Chattanoogan.com with a list of all of their employees making $60,000 or more. Chattanoogan.com made a request under the Freedom of Information Act to Erlanger for similar salary information. Erlanger is a public hospital subject to requirements of the state Sunshine Law.
Of those on the list of 16 Erlanger administrators, 15 are paid more than County Mayor Claude Ramsey or Mayor Ron Littlefield.
Ms. Poston said Monday, "Erlanger Health System responded Friday, June 27th, to an Open Records request from the Chattanoogan.com. The request was for 'all Erlanger salaries at or above $60,000 per year', and also asked for employee names and positions. We feel this will unnecessarily invade the privacy of our employees. Erlanger Health System has never received a request to produce, nor has it released, employee salaries at this level to the media, due to the sensitivity of the information.
"None-the-less, we are reviewing the appropriateness of the request. We ask The Chattanoogan.com to use their discretion, and to request all area hospitals to disclose similar information in order to put this request in context.
"Erlanger has provided to the Chattanoogan.com, as it has in the past to other media outlets, information on Executive Management salaries, and has provided that information to the Chattanoogan.com on Friday, June 27th."
