Rick Turner Celebrates 30th Anniversary At Hunter Museum posted July 2, 2008 Hunter Museum employee Rick Turner recently rounded off 30 years of service in the maintenance department, cementing his status as the museum's longest-employed staff member. Since coming to the Hunter in 1978, he has witnessed the museum's transformation. Through two building additions and countless staff changes, he has been the museum's most steadfast source of continuity. "I've been here through everything," said Mr. Turner. "This place is a lot different than it used to be. I have seen renovations, landscape changes and the hiring of more and more employees. We just keep growing here." Eileen Henry Haun, who has worked in the museum's administrative department for 18 years, says Rick Turner has become a special fixture in the museum. "Rick knows this museum upside down and inside out," she said. "Everyone who works here knows him—a lot of people associate him with the Hunter." And whether he is working extra hours, patrolling the grounds or filling in as a guard, Mr. Turner is known for going the extra mile—in both his work and relationships. "He is kind of a father-figure to the some of the staff members, especially the younger ones," said Lynn Hicks, manager of the maintenance department. "If you are having a bad day or feeling stressed out, Rick is the guy you want to run into. He is just such a positive person." "He cares a lot about the staff," said Ms. Haun. "He is always willing to go out of his way to help others and you can trust him with anything." According to Mr. Turner, this special connection with his co-workers — along with his love for the museum — has been what keeps him coming back to the Hunter year after year. "We have had some good times here," he said. "I'd like to work here until I retire. I've always liked working with the staff and I really enjoy the museum's beautiful view. It's just a great place to work." And though he has already spent such a considerable amount of time at the museum, his co-workers say they hope to see him working at the Hunter for many more years to come. "This place just would not be the same without Rick," said Ms. Hicks. "He has such a positive attitude—dedication like his is hard to find." |
