"Leading Ladies" Performed At Chattanooga Theatre Center posted July 3, 2008 "Leading Ladies," performed July 11–Aug. 10 on the Main Stage of the Chattanooga Theatre Centre, is a hilarious comedy by Ken Ludwig who penned Lend Me a Tenor – one of the biggest selling, most popular productions ever to hit the CTC stage. "Leading Ladies" is the story of two actors, Leo Clark and Jack Gable, who, finding themselves performing Shakespeare at the Moose Lodge in the Amish country of Pennsylvania, figure they’ve hit bottom. They’re wrong. Hearing of a wealthy woman in search of long-lost relatives to inherit her fortune, the two resort to extreme measures in a last-ditch effort to capture the good life. Suzanne Smartt directs this rowdy play that is filled with deception, mistaken identities, cross-dressing, and even romance. Josh Ruben (Leo) and Jasen Durrence (Jack) arrive prepared to pass as the nephews in question, but discover that the missing relatives are, in fact, nieces. Determined to carry on with the plan, the two go all out to convince Wendy Tippens (Florence) of their identity. The plan hits the skids when Leo meets Meg (Stephanie Freeman) and falls head-over-high-heels in love. But she’s already engaged to the stuffy Duncan (Rodney Strong). Given that the course of true love never did run true, the "nieces" engage the group, including Audrey (Katlyn Whittenbarger), Butch (Sanford Knox, Jr.), and Doc (Stacy Helton), in staging scenes from Shakespeare that the Bard never dreamed of. See how the plan of deception comes together, falls apart, and comes together again during this fun production that concludes the 2007-08 season.
