Baylor Varsity Swimming Recognized For Academic Achievements by special report to the Chattanoogan posted July 3, 2008 Baylor's varsity swimming teams have been recognized by the National Interscholastic Swim Coaches Association for their academic efforts. The NISCA/KIEFER Scholar Team Award recognizes teams achieving high academic standards, based on the average cumulative GPA of an entire varsity team (single gender) of 12 or more athletes. The three levels of recognition are: Bronze (3.200 - 3.499 GPA), Silver (3.500 - 3.749 GPA), and Gold (3.750 - 4.000 GPA). Baylor's girls team earned a Silver Award with a 3.617 GPA making them the third-ranked team out of Tennessee and the third-ranked independent school team. The Baylor varsity boys earned a Bronze Award with a 3.308 GPA, ranking them first inTennessee and eighth among all independent schools. Baylor coach Dan Flack is checking final rankings, but both Baylor teams could possibly be the only teams to earn one of these academic awards and also be ranked in the top ten in the pool.
