Lookouts Hold On To Beat Mississippi Braves, 5-4 posted July 4, 2008
Travis Wood (2-4) threw one his his best outings of the season for the Lookouts. Wood went six innings, giving up two hits and one run. Chattanooga took a 5-2 lead into the bottom of the ninth. The Braves got all over Carlos Fisher who yielded two runs on two hits. Fisher was able to collect his seventh save. Jeff Francoeur, who was sent down from Atlanta Friday to work on his hitting, went 2-for-5. In his first at bat Francoeur hit, what was originally called a homer run, but then reversed - eventually he walked. Matt Diaz, on a rehab assignment, was 0-for-3 in the game. Sean Henry continued his impressive hitting for Chattanooga. Henry, now hitting .306, went 2-for-4 (both hits were doubles), had 2 RBI and also scored a run. Justin Turner also went 2-for-4 and scored a run. Chris Valaika, who will be playing at Yankees Stadium in the Futures Game, went 1-for-4 (a double). Personal note On the Francoeur reversed call, it comes as no surprise to Chattanooga-area fans to learn that Mississippi manager Phillip "Sniper" Wellman (a YouTube celebrity) was ejected for arguing the call. No report on his antics, but it is likely his days of showmanship have been reigned in by the Atlanta Braves management. * * * * * Game 2 of the four-game series is Saturday. Each Lookouts game can be heard on the radio at 1310 AM or over the Internet by going to either MiLB.com or to Lookouts.com.
