Whirlpool Adding 500 Jobs At Cleveland posted July 10, 2008 Whirlpool Corporation announced Thursday it will add approximately 500 jobs to its operations in Cleveland, Tn. Whirlpool is closing a plant at Oxford, Miss., and many of those jobs will go to Cleveland. Rep. Zach Wamp praised the move, saying, “Whirlpool’s decision to grow its manufacturing operations in Cleveland recognizes the high-quality workforce and the local leadership through Mayor Tom Rowland and the Chamber of Commerce. "When Cleveland leaders requested federal help on a serious infrastructure problem, a strong partnership was formed between local and federal governments and the private sector. "The construction of several detention ponds for flood control has made a huge difference in relieving much of the frequent flooding in the downtown business district and residential communities of Cleveland. “Knowing that some jobs were leaving the area, Senator Alexander and I secured federal funding for the detention ponds to solve the problem and create a stable environment conducive to economic development and job creation. “When the federal government partners with local and state government, we can succeed in improving the economic well-being of a community and the quality of life of its residents. The addition of about 500 employees in Cleveland over the next 12 months is tremendous news and a very welcome financial benefit to the region.” |
