Members of Dayton City School Student Council presented a $500 check donation to Ronald McDonald House Charities of Greater Chattanooga recently. The student council group of 6th through 8th graders held several fundraisers during the school year to raise funds to help support the charity. For a number of the students, it was their first visit to “The House that Love Built.”

“Ronald McDonald House Charities helps improve the lives of children and with our donation we hope to help the families out in their greatest time of need,” said Jill Land, teacher and student council adviser, Dayton City Schools.

Each year nearly 600 families from the tri-state area and beyond call the Ronald McDonald House their “home away from home” while their child is receiving treatment at a nearby hospital. It costs the charity $55 per day to provide its services to each family. Families are asked to donate $10 per night to help with expenses, however nearly half of the families are unable to afford this nominal amount. However, at the Ronald McDonald House, no family is ever turned away because of an inability to pay.

“We appreciate these students’ hard work and effort to support our mission in serving children with life threatening illnesses and their families” said William Moore, Board of Directors, Ronald McDonald House Charities of Greater Chattanooga. “Every donation helps us keep our doors open.”
