TDOT Region Two Weekly Construction Project Update

Lane closure information is provided to the Tennessee Department of Transportation by the contractors. Unless otherwise stated, all times listed are Eastern.

Should unforeseen circumstances or weather prevent any of this work from being performed, it will be rescheduled to take place as soon as possible.

Bradley County
* I-75 Exit 20 Bridge Repair at the I-75 / US-64 Junction (US-74, SR-311) Work on this project continues. Motorists traveling on the APD-40, US-74 (SR-311) bridge over I-75 at Exit 20 should expect delays in this area. Throughout this report period, the contractor will implement nightly lane closures on I-75 North and South beginning at 8:00 p.m. until 6:00 a.m. the following morning to perform bridge repair work. The bridge over I-75 is once again down to one lane until the remainder of the bridge deck has been repaired. Estimated completion date is July 2008. (Jamison Construction, LLC/GF).

Bradley / McMinn County
* I-75 Renovation of the Fog Detection System (from near mm 24 to near mm 45) Work on this project continues. The contractor will have intermittent short-term shoulder closures on I-75 North and South throughout this report period between 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. to perform work on the fog detection system. Motorists should use caution and be alert to changing traffic conditions. Estimated completion date is August 2008. (TransCore ITS, LLC/CG).
* I-75 Bridge Repainting (mm 33.0 to 37.0) Work on this project is underway. Throughout this report period, the contractor will have shoulder closures on I-75 North from 7:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. at the Hiwassee River Bridge in order to perform painting operation. Two lanes in each direction will be maintained at all times. Motorists should use caution and be alert to changing traffic conditions. Estimated completion date is October 2008 (Seminole Equipment, Inc./ CG).

Clay County
* SR-151 Construction of Small Drainage Structure (lm 0.11) Work on this project is underway. Traffic is reduced to one lane by the use of a temporary traffic signal system. Motorists should be alert for construction traffic entering and leaving the roadway. Estimated project completion date is October 2008. (Highways, Inc./SC).
* SR-52 Construction of Small Drainage Structure (lm 22.41) Work on this project is underway. The contractor will have temporary detours set in place in order to route traffic around construction activity. Motorists should be alert for construction traffic entering and leaving the roadway. Estimated project completion date is October 2008. (Highways, Inc./SC).

Cumberland County
* SR-101 (Peavine Road) Bridge and Approaches over I-40 (mm 322) Work continues on this project. There are no anticipated interstate lane closures. The median of I-40 both eastbound and westbound will be closed with portable barrier rail for the duration of the project. A portion of the turn lane on SR-101 (east bound I-40 on ramp) is now closed with portable barrier rail for the duration of the project. In addition, intermittent lane stoppages may occur on Peavine Road due to work within close proximity to the roadway. Motorists should use caution and be alert to changing traffic conditions. Estimated completion date is May 2009. (Highways, Inc./DB).

Dekalb County
* SR-26 Resurfacing (microsurfacing) from the Wilson County line (lm 0.00) to near SR-96 (lm 5.57) Work on this project has begun. The contractor will use temporary lane closures as needed for pavement marking, guardrail and resurfacing work. One lane of traffic in each direction will be maintained during working hours. Motorists should be alert for construction traffic entering and leaving the roadway. Estimated project completion date is September 2008. (Strawser, Inc./SC).

Fentress County
* US-127 (SR-28) Grading, Drainage, and Paving beginning at 0.2 miles north of Big Dry Creek and extending to 1.7 miles north of Jamestown Work on this project is underway. The contractor is currently performing grading operations. There are no lane closures scheduled at this time. The contractor is using a flagging operation in order to navigate construction equipment through the project. Motorists should be alert for changing traffic conditions. Estimated project completion date is May 2010. (Wright Brothers Cost. Co., Inc./SC).
* Jonesville Road - Construction of Concrete Slab Bridge, including Grading, Drainage and Paving, over Mill Creek (lm 14.22) Work on this project is underway. Traffic has been detoured onto Catfish Farm Road and will remain detoured for the duration of the project. Motorists should be alert for changing traffic conditions. Estimated project completion date is August 2008. (J & M, Inc./GW).
* SR-52 Construction of Bridge Over Big Indian Creek (lm 1.45) Work on this project is underway. Traffic is reduced to one lane in the work zone and controlled by a temporary signal system that will be in operation for the duration of the project. Motorists should be alert for construction traffic entering and leaving the roadway. Estimated project completion date is May 2009. (Wright Brothers Construction, Inc./SC).

Franklin County
* SR-15 (US-41A) Resurfacing from McAmis Lane (lm 22.0) to North of SR-56 (lm 27.32) Work on this project is underway. The contractor will use temporary lane closures as needed for pavement marking, guardrail and resurfacing work. One lane of traffic in each direction will be maintained during working hours. Motorists should use caution and be alert to changing traffic conditions. Estimated completion date is July 2008. (Rogers Group, Inc/ CB).

Grundy County
* SR-56 (Main Street) Box Bridge Construction, Grading, Drainage, and Paving on over Piney Creek (lm 20.56) Work on this project is underway. The contractor is currently working on the construction of the box bridge. Motorists should use caution and be alert to changing traffic conditions. Estimated completion date is July 2008. (Dement Construction Company, LLC/ CB).

Hamilton County
*I-75 Widening Project from 1.1 miles south of Lee Hwy. (SR-2 / US-11) to 1.2 miles north of Lee Hwy. (SR-2 / US-11) Work on this project continues. Here is the major work for this week:
-Each night throughout this report period (excluding Sunday, July 20) the contractor will have lane closures on I-75 northbound and southbound between mm 10 – mm 12 from 10:00 p.m. until 6:00 a.m. the following morning to set new barrier rail, realign existing barrier rail and accommodate paving operations. One lane of traffic will remain open at all times.
-In addition, on Thursday, July 17 and Friday, July 18 the contractor will have lane closures at Exit 11 (Ooltewah Exit) from I-75 North and at the Entrance Ramp from Lee Highway to I-75 North from 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. These closures are to allow the contractor to shift traffic to new temporary pavement so they can begin installing permanent concrete paving. Please be alert for ramp shifts as traffic will be shifted to new temporary alignments.
-Each day throughout this report period the contractor will have lane closures on Snow Hill Road and Hunter Road from 8:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. to install new utilities. However, the contractor must move off the roadway from 2:30 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. each day during the shift change at Miller Industries.
-Old Lee Highway in this area will remain closed until the new bridge and approaches are complete, which is now scheduled to take place by mid-August 2008. Access to all businesses in the area will be maintained. Detours are posted. The rest area located at the end of the project on I-75 South is now closed and will remain closed for the duration of the project. Motorists should use caution and be alert to changing traffic conditions. Estimated completion date is December 2010. (Bell & Associates Construction/LF).
* I-24 Bridge Repainting (mm 181.0 to 183.0) This project is complete pending addressing punchlist items. Estimated completion date is July 2008 (Seminole Equipment, Inc. / LF).
* I-24 Bridge Repainting (mm 178.0 to 179.0) Work on this project continues. The contractor will have shoulder closures beginning at 9:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. on I-24 throughout this report period in order to perform bridge repainting. Motorists should use caution and be alert to changing traffic conditions. Estimated completion date is October 2008 (Industrial Painting, Inc./CG).

Shallowford Road Widening Project, From West of Mark Lane to West of Center Street - Work on this project continues. The contractor will have flagging operations in place beginning at 9:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. each day in order to route traffic around construction activity. The right turn lane (southbound) on Lee Highway at the SunTrust Bank corner is closed to accommodate Phase 1 construction. The lane will be blocked off with portable barrier rail for the duration of this phase. Traffic shifts have been set in place to route traffic around construction activities in some areas. Beginning on July 8, Hickory Valley Road was closed from the intersection of Shallowford Road to McCutcheon Road. This closure will be in place for approximately six weeks from the date of closure to allow the contractor to bring the existing grade of Hickory Valley Road up to the new grade of Shallowford Road. Local traffic on this section of Hickory Valley Road will enter from the McCutcheon Road/Hickory Valley Road intersection. Detours are posted. Please be advised and take caution when traveling through this area. Motorists are also cautioned to observe the 35-m.p.h. speed limit throughout the construction zone. Due problems with speeding in this area, both state troopers and local police have increased enforcement. Motorists who must travel through this area are asked to be patient and to stay alert for changing traffic conditions. Estimated completion date is October 2008. (Greenstar, LLC/LF).

* Ashland Terrace Widening Project, From Knollwood Drive to West of Norcross Road Work on this project continues. Daily flagging operations will be set in place in order to route traffic around construction activities beginning from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Occasional lane closures may be needed to allow the contractor to safely relocate utilities and install drainage structures. The contractor will close Highland Drive and Crestview Drive for the report period. Detours will be posted. Motorists should use caution and be alert to changing traffic conditions and find alternative routes. Estimated completion date is December 2008. (Talley Construction Co., Inc./CG).
* SR-29 (US-27) Resurfacing from Old Dayton Pike (lm 25.77) to Sale Creek (lm 28.33) Work on this project is underway. The contractor will have daily lane closures throughout this report period in order to perform resurfacing work. Motorist should be alert for changing traffic conditions. Estimated project completion date is September 2008. (Highways Inc. /CG).
*Maintenance of Closed Circuit Camera System on various Interstate and State Routes in Chattanooga The contractor will be working throughout the Chattanooga area on various interstate and state routes to perform maintenance on the closed circuit television system for the monitoring of traffic. On Friday, July 18, the contractor will implement short-term lane and shoulder closures beginning 9:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. in order to perform preventive maintenance on the cameras at I-75 NB from mm 1.0 to mm 1.20 (intermittent shoulder closure) and on Shallowford Rd. WB on bridge over I-75 (right lane closure). Motorists should be alert for changing traffic conditions. (Mastec North America, Inc./LF).
*SR-29 (US-127) Resurfacing on Cherokee Boulevard (lm10.14) to SR-29 (US-27) (lm 12.32) Work on this project is scheduled to begin Monday, July 21. The contractor will have nightly lane closures beginning at 7:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. the following morning for the remainder of this report period. Motorists should be alert for changing traffic conditions. Estimated completion date is September 2008. (Highways, Inc./CG).

Jackson County
* SR-85 Resurfacing (microsurfacing) from SR-53 (lm 15.30) to 0.09 miles east of Gaw Branch Rd. (lm 20.17) Work on this project has begun. The contractor will use temporary lane closures as needed for pavement marking, guardrail and resurfacing work. One lane of traffic in each direction will be maintained during working hours. Motorists should be alert for construction traffic entering and leaving the roadway. Estimated project completion date is September 2008. (Strawser, Inc./SC).

Lincoln County
* US-64 Grading, Drainage, Construction of Concrete Box Bridges, and Paving beginning 0.250 miles east of SR-275 (Flintville Rd.) and extending to 0.152 miles east of the Lincoln County/Franklin County Line. Work on this project is underway. The contractor will have lane shifts around construction area. Motorists should use caution and be alert while traveling through the construction zone. Estimated completion date is July 2010. (Highways, Inc./CB).

Marion County
* I-24 Resurfacing from the Grundy County Line (mm 133) to Cave Cove Creek (mm 140) Work on this project is underway. Throughout this report period, the contractor will have eastbound lane closures from 7:00 p.m. until 6:00 a.m. the following morning to perform milling and paving operation. One lane of traffic will be maintained at all times. Motorists should use caution and be alert to changing traffic conditions. Estimated completion date is July 2008.(Rogers Group, Inc/ KP).

McMinn County
* I-75 Resurfacing beginning at mm 45 to Monroe County Line (mm 59) Work on this project is underway. The contractor will have lane closures northbound and southbound from 7:00 p.m. until 6:00 a.m. the following morning in order to perform paving operations. The speed limit will be lowered to 60 mph in the work zone. Motorists should use caution and be alert to changing traffic conditions. Estimated completion date is August 2008. (APAC-Atlantic, Inc./GF).
* SR-68 Resurfacing from log mile 2.0 to Monroe County Line (log mile 8.23) The contractor will have temporary lane closures as needed for resurfacing work, guardrail, and pavement marking. One lane of traffic will be maintained in each direction during working hours. Motorists should be alert for construction traffic entering and leaving the roadway. Estimated project completion date is July 2008. (Rogers Group/DB).

Meigs County
* SR-58 Bridge Construction Over Hiwassee River (lm 5.22) Work on this project is complete pending punchlist items. Estimated completion date is July 2008. (J & M, Inc./GF).
* SR-58 Construction of a Small Drainage Structure, including Grading, Drainage and Paving (lm 17.18) Work on this project is underway. The contactor may have some flagging operations in place to facilitate construction activities. Motorist should use caution and be alert to changing traffic conditions. Estimated completion date is July 2008. (Greenstar, LLC. GF).

Overton County
* SR-85 Resurfacing (microsurfacing) from the Jackson County Line (lm 0.00) to Davis Rd. (lm 5.63) Work on this project has begun. The contractor will use temporary lane closures as needed for pavement marking, guardrail and resurfacing work. One lane of traffic in each direction will be maintained during working hours. Motorists should be alert for construction traffic entering and leaving the roadway. Estimated project completion date is September 2008. (Strawser, Inc./SC).

Polk County
* SR-68 Bridge Construction over the Tennessee Overhill Heritage Association Railroad (lm 6.22) Work on this project is complete pending final inspection. Estimated completion date is July 2008. (Mid-State Construction Company, Inc./GF).

US-64 (SR-40) Grading, Drainage, and Paving at Mac Point Recreation Area All work on this project has been completed with the exception of some added guardrail items. Motorists should use caution and be alert while traveling through the construction zone. Estimated completion date is July 2008 (Greenstar, LLC/GF).

* US-64 (SR-40) Grading Drainage, and Paving on US-64 (SR-40) beginning east of US-411 (SR-33) and extending to west of the Ocoee River Work on this project is underway. The contractor is currently clearing, removing structures and installing erosion control throughout the project area. Motorists should use caution and be alert while traveling through the construction zone. Estimated completion date is September 2010. (Talley Construction Company, Inc./GF).
* US-411 (SR-33) Repair of Bridge over the Conasauga River (lm 1.52) Work on this project is underway. The contractor will have flagging operations in order to route traffic around construction activity. Motorist should use caution and be alert to changing traffic conditions. Estimated completion date is September 2008. (Mid-State Construction Company, Inc./GF).

Putnam County
* SR-56 Intersection improvement on SR-56 (Baxter Road) at 1st Avenue South and Flea Market Road Work on this project is underway. The contractor will be installing footers for new signal poles and grading shoulders and areas outside the traveled roadway. Motorists should be alert for construction vehicles entering and leaving the roadway. Estimated project completion date is November 2008. (Hill Brothers Excavating, Inc./GW).

Rhea County
* SR-29 Widening Project from SR-68 Junction to Spring City North City Limits Intermittent lane stoppages may occur on SR-29 (US-27) due to work within close proximity to the roadway as well as short intermittent lane closures on the north end of the project for bridge construction activities at Piney River and Piney River Overflow. Please note that some lane assignments on Piccadilly Avenue and on Jackson Street have changed. Drivers are urged to be attentive and follow the pavement markings and signs. Also, please pay special attention to the electronic turn restriction signs, which are activated by a train passing through town. Motorists should use caution and be alert to changing traffic conditions. Estimated completion date is April 2011. (Charles Blalock & Sons/DB).
* SR-29 Resurfacing Project from 0.26 miles north of Macedonia Road (lm 28.16) to the bridge over Whites Creek lm 31.78) Work on this project is underway. The contractor will use temporary lane closures as needed for pavement marking, guardrail and install rumble striping. One lane of traffic in each direction will be maintained during working hours. Motorists should be alert for construction traffic entering and leaving the roadway. Estimated project completion date is September 2008. (Strawser, Inc./GW).

Warren County
* SR-1 Widening Project from East of Spring Valley to McMinnville. Work on this project is underway. The contractor is currently performing grading, drainage, and utility work. Flagging operations and detours will be set in place in order to route traffic around construction activity. Motorists should be alert for changing traffic conditions. Estimated project completion date is July 2008. (Highways, Inc./BH).

SR-55 Bridge Repair Over Barren Fork River (lm 2.64) Work on this project is underway. Traffic is reduced to one lane in the work zone and controlled by a temporary signal system that will be in operation for the duration of the project. Motorists should be alert to changing traffic conditions. Estimated completion date is April 2009. (General Constructors, Inc./BH).

White County
* SR-111 Resurfacing Project from the junction of Shady Oak Road (lm 4.20) to the junction of Fred Hill Road (lm 7.31) Work on this project is underway. The contractor will use temporary lane closures as needed for pavement marking and install rumble striping. One lane of traffic in each direction will be maintained during working hours. Motorists should be alert for construction traffic entering and leaving the roadway. Estimated project completion date is September 2008. (Strawser, Inc./GW).
