World Changers Nears Completion Of First Week’s Repairs
posted July 18, 2008

Mayor Ron Littlefield announced that since July 14, approximately 350 youth along with adult volunteers from various cities throughout the nation have been in Chattanooga performing home repair work. Before the end of the project, nearly 60 residents will have received home repair such as roofs, painting and carpentry work – all free of charge to the homeowner.

This is the sixth summer that World Changers has provided these services to qualified homeowners of Chattanooga. Founded in 1990 and sponsored by the North American Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention, World Changers makes a difference in the lives of homeowners and communities both nationally and internationally by helping to eliminate substandard housing and providing an opportunity for youth to serve through a hands-on mission experience.

World Changers will be in Chattanooga through July 26. The Front Porch Alliance and the Department of Neighborhood Services and Community Development are the sponsors of the project. Together, the two entities have provided Community Development Block Grant funds along with other public and private funding to furnish the building materials and other resources to carry out the project. Lodging is provided by Brainerd Baptist Church, and lunches and snacks are provided by additional local churches.
