Alexian Village Celebrates St. Alexus Week With Surprise Parade
posted July 18, 2008

Residents of Alexian Village on Signal Mountain were treated with a parade on Friday morning to celebrate the conclusion of St. Alexius week.

The annual parade provided special excitement this year by honoring the Village’s staff and Brother John Howard, who was named Grand Marshal of the ceremonies.

“I was greatly surprised by the parade and even more so to be named as the Grand Marshal,” said Brother Howard. “This has been a wonderful day for all of us and truly a celebration we’ll all remember for a long time.”

Specific themes were the decorative focal point of this year’s festival. Golf carts, riding lawn mowers, and tractors decorated by different Alexian departments boasted bright Mardi Gras décor as well as beach, patriotic, princess, and smiley-face themes. Each cart carried revelers tossing candy and shouting greetings to residents and staff as the parade route wound through the campus. The processional was led by the Signal Mountain Police Department and Signal Mountain Fire Department.

The parade ended at the facility’s gazebo with a barbeque lunch provided to honor the staff.

Alexian Village of Tennessee President Jeff Ott said, “We wanted to honor our staff for all they do to make this such a special place. The success of our ministry is a testament not only to the Alexian Brothers but also to our staff who go the extra mile each and every day.”

St. Alexius is the patron saint for the Alexian Brothers and provides the foundation for the organization’s ministries to the community.
