He was 51. Tony was a proud lifetime member of the Oak Grove Community. One of the happiest times of his life was as a youth in Oak Grove, especially at the Ferger Place baseball field where he was a daily fixture. He was a student at Clifton Hills Elementary School and attended Kirkman Technical High School. He was also an employee of Gibson’s for several years. Tony was a devout member of the Christian faith throughout his adult life. He was preceded in death by his two loving and devoted parents, Tommy and Louise Branch. Survivors include his brother, James Branch, and a legion of friends from all walks of life. Tony was a lifelong loyal and devoted fan of talk and music radio. His voice became very familiar to the Chattanooga listening audience, especially on the W.G.O.W. FM Sport Talk Radio program, where he was a frequent caller and “character” known as “Tomahawk” for many, many years. He had an unmatched passion for his Atlanta Braves, the Tennessee Vols, and all types of music. It was through these radio programs that Tony became a well-known figure in the surrounding area. He was also a founding member of the Golden Gateway Book & Record Club. He never met a stranger and was a friend and confidant to all. He met all of life’s adversities with unmatched strength and dignity, and is now at peace. His legions of friends are all richer for having known him, and poorer for his passing. Graveside services will be held Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. at the Chattanooga National Cemetery. Contributions may be made to the Tony Branch Funeral Fund at 1st Volunteer Bank, downtown at 728 Broad Street, or at P.O. Box 11508, Chattanooga, Tn. 37401.
