Cincinnati Reds Make Roster Moves Affecting Lookouts Roster posted July 21, 2008
LHP Ben Jukich, RHP Carlos Fisher, and INF Drew Anderson all received promotions to Louisville (AAA). INF Jose Castro, RHP Misael DeJesus, RHP Ramon Geronimo, and INF Justin Tordi were each called up from Sarasota to fill-out the Lookouts’ roster. Additionally, C Craig Tatum was placed on the temporarily inactive list. Jukich, who recently started on the mound for the North Division in the 2008 Southern League All-Star Game, went 8-4 with a 3.57 ERA for the Lookouts. The lefty yielded three earned runs or less in 13 of his first 16 starts on the season before surrendering 15 over his last three, which effectively took him off his long-tenured stay atop the Southern League’s ERA leaderboard. Jukich made his first start for Louisville Sunday. He went 4 1/3 innings giving up 7 hits and 4 earned runs. He was not the pitcher of record. Fisher began the season as a middle reliever but moved into the position of closer with the promotion of Josh Roenicke. Since assuming the role as closer for the Lookouts on May 30th, he has collected eight saves, while sporting a 2.07 ERA. Overall on the season, he has posted a 1-5 record with a 3.73 ERA for the Lookouts. In 50.2 innings of relief, he notched 46 strikeouts to 20 walks. Fisher, making his first appearance at Triple-A Sunday, picked up a win in relief. Fisher went 1 2/3 innings yielding one hit, one walk, while striking out five hitters for Louisville. Anderson makes his second trip to Louisville this season, where he went 1-4 with an RBI in three games. He has played in 59 total games for the Lookouts this season, batting .204 with 11 doubles, four homers, and 20 RBIs. Castro, an opening-day member of the 2008 Lookouts, makes his second tour with the Lookouts this season. Between Chattanooga and Sarasota he has hit .244 with one homer, four doubles, and one triple. DeJesus pitched in 27 games for the Sarasota, mainly in the bullpen. He went 3-4 with a 4.22 ERA for Sarasota and struck out 68 batters in 59.2 innings. In five starts, he went 2-3 with a 3.12 ERA. DeJesus lost his first start for the Lookouts Sunday in Mobile's 7-0 shutout. Geronimo comes from Sarasota, where he dominated in the role as the team’s closer. In 41.1 innings, he notched 48 strikeouts and 11 saves, while yielding just 22 hits, 11 walks, and four earned runs, giving him a stellar ERA of 0.87. Tordi makes his second voyage to Chattanooga, where he played in three games, going 0-4. He hit .255 with seven doubles and one homer in 46 games for Sarasota this season. * * * * * * Chattanooga will open a five-game homestand against the West Tennessee Diamond Jaxx at 7:15 P.M., Tuesday.
