Brexler Expecting About $3.5 Million In Help From State, Feds
posted July 21, 2008

Erlanger Medical Center CEO Jim Brexler said he is expecting about $3.5 million of late help from the state and federal government.

He said a veto override by Congress of the Medicare Improvements for Patients and Providers Act of 2008 would mean that about $2.5 million may be available to Erlanger in "disproportional share" funding.

Mr. Brexler said the hospital got about $2 million last year of about $31 million nationwide for charity care.

He said the fund should grow to about $35 million or $36 million this year, and perhaps $43 million the following year.

On the state level, he said Erlanger stands to receive about $1 million of a similar fund that totals about $9 million.

Erlanger officials told the Hospital Authority board on Monday night they did not yet have final numbers for the fiscal year - in which Erlanger took a sizable unexpected loss.
