Section Of South Chickamauga Creek Greenway Now Open Design Underway For Much Of The Rest Of Walkway posted July 22, 2008 The first section of the South Chickamauga Creek Greenway is now open, and much of the rest of the trail that eventually will connect East Ridge with the Tennessee River is under design. Larry Zehnder, city parks and recreation director, said the first section is in the middle of the planned greenway at the Waterhaven development. A trailhead is being built by Harrison Pike to access the new section. "It is a beautiful mile and a quarter asphalt trail that goes along the hillside above the creek," Mr. Zehnder said. He said boat launches are also being put in nearby. Mr. Zehnder said much of the entire new portion of the greenway that will connect the Riverwalk with the Brainerd Levee at Shallowford Road is under design. The new design work includes about three miles leading from Harrison Pike to Shallowford. The city is still seeking all the right of way for the section starting at the Riverwalk and leading toward Waterhaven. Mr. Zehnder said the Mueller Corporation is granting a .7-acre easement along the trail. There is no cost to the city. The trail is already complete from the Brainerd Levee under the I-75 freeway to Camp Jordan Park in East Ridge. |
