Tennessee Insider Has Volkswagen Forum Friday
posted July 23, 2008

WTCI will air a special one hour episode of Tennessee Insider on Friday at 8:30 p.m. Host and moderator Felicia McGhee-Hilt will lead a roundtable discussion on the recent announcement of Volkswagen building an automobile plant in Chattanooga and a special forum with the candidates for Hamilton County sheriff. An encore presentation will air on Sunday at 10:30 a.m.

The first half hour will feature Hamilton County Mayor Claude Ramsey and Chattanooga Mayor Ron Littlefield discussing questions about the Volkswagen plant that has chosen to be built at Enterprise South in Chattanooga. The announcement was made Monday, July 14, at the Hunter Museum of Art. They will be answering what this means for the residents of the Tennessee Valley and how the final decision by Volkswagen was made.

The Volkswagen plant will employ 2,000 workers from the tri-state area and is expected to invest $1 billion in the local economy. The plant is an integral part of Volkswagen's plan for expansion in the North American market, with sales expected to crest 800,000 units by 2018. The 1,350-acre site will produce 150,000 vehicles annually - specifically a midsize sedan - in 2011.

In the second half hour, all of the candidates for Hamilton County Sheriff will be in the studio for their first primetime discussion forum. After the arrest of former Sheriff Billy Long, a special election will take place Aug. 7. Candidates Greg Beck (D), Jim Hammonds (R), Tim Akins (I), Jim Winters (I), and Fred Fuson (write in candidate) will be in the studio answering questions and discussing issues that matter to voters.

Tennessee Insider is the only locally produced primetime television show that explores local area public affairs with a panel of popular journalists, political insiders and pundits in a roundtable discussion each week.
