Saying he was continuing his “all of the above” energy approach, Congressman Zach Wamp joined a number of fellow House Republicans today to introduce the American Energy Act, which he called "a comprehensive plan to help lower gas prices and reduce our dependence on foreign oil."
“The nexus between national security, energy and the environment is one of the most important issues of our time,” said Congressman Wamp. “We need an ‘all of the above’ approach to lead the world on energy solutions, and the American Energy Act will help us get there.”
The legislation includes many energy policies proposed by members throughout the House Republican Conference, including one that Congressman Wamp led with Congressman Roscoe Bartlett of Maryland. Their bill, the Clean Energy Tax Stimulus Act, would extend renewable energy tax credits and provide incentives for businesses and homeowners who improve their energy efficiency. Other provisions in the American Energy Act will increase the supply of American-made energy, improve conservation and energy efficiency and promote renewable and alternative energy technologies, he said.
“Extending these expiring tax credits is critical for long-term growth of renewable energy. We must enact effective policies that give this domestic industry an opportunity to flourish,” said Congressman Wamp, co-chair of the House Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Caucus.
“Conservation is the greatest potential source of energy savings that exists today and is certainly a key part of an ‘all of the above’ strategy. Conservation is not for wimps, it is for warriors. Not every American will put on the uniform of our Armed Forces, but every single American can help secure our energy future and secure our nation against the petro-countries.”
