The Harriet Tubman Development’s second annual block party will be Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the housing development at 2006 N. Hawthorne St., and admission is free.
There will be free backyard BBQ and dessert, live music, dance teams, step teams, a 3-on-3 basketball tournament, a giant slip-and-slide, fire truck tours, health and dental screenings, a bicycle repair booth and other exciting activities designed to foster community. Door prizes will be raffled away, including movie tickets and gift certificates to various stores and restaurants.
Participants will enter at two registration points along Southern Street, between North Hawthorne Street and North Orchard Knob Avenue, directly across from the Harriet Tubman Development.
Organized by Hope for the Inner City and the Harriet Tubman Development, the event is co-sponsored by several churches: Love Fellowship Baptist Church, Miracle Missionary Baptist Church, Rock Island Baptist Church, and Restoration Temple of Praise, all from the surrounding neighborhood; as well as New City Fellowship, First Presbyterian Church and Lookout Mountain Presbyterian Church.
