Braves Bounce Back With 9-4 Win Over Florida Wednesday posted July 23, 2008
When the Braves began this six-game road trip, they wanted to claim two series wins against division rivals. Now that they've taken two of three games from the Marlins, they'll look to do the same against the Phillies. But they may have to do so without Chipper Jones, who left Wednesday's game in the fourth inning with a strained left hamstring. Providing more injury-related concern for the Braves was the fact that Hudson exited after throwing just 68 pitches in six scoreless innings. He experienced tightness in his right elbow and will be re-evaluated on Thursday. Hudson, who is 7-2 with a 2.63 ERA in 13 career starts against the Marlins, produced a leadoff single against Ricky Nolasco that sparked his team's two-run third inning. After Escobar provided an RBI double, Jones capped the inning with an RBI single. Nolasco, who is 1-4 with a 5.44 ERA in seven career starts against the Braves, also struggled in a three-run fourth inning that began with consecutive doubles by Jeff Francoeur and Kelly Johnson. Jones, who leads the Majors with a .369 batting average, was hurt while trying to beat out a groundout that ended that inning. Blanco, who also produced a career-high three RBIs, capped his evening with a two-run triple in the eighth. _________ Adapted from MLB.com |
