Men Escape Burning House On Awtry Street
posted July 24, 2008

Chattanooga firefighters responded to an early morning house fire at 2403 Awtry St.

The 911 Communications Center received the first call shortly after 2 a.m. When the first firefighters arrived on the scene, flames were shooting through the roof of the two-story house.

Details are still sketchy, but two men were in the house at the time of the fire. They reportedly smelled smoke and got out of the house uninjured.

Battalion Chief Ben Biggs said the firefighters got the fire out fairly quickly, but there was substantial damage to the house. The loss was estimated at around $45,000.

There was also some fire damage to the vinyl siding at an adjacent house.

The cause of the fire is undetermined and under investigation.
