Tennessee Approves the Use of NEV’s on More Roads
On July 1, the State of Tennessee enacted a law that would allow the use of NEV’s, or Neighborhood Electric Vehicles traveling up to 35 mph on public streets with speed limits of 40 mph or less. This makes Tennessee only the third state in the U.S.—behind Montana and Washington—to raise the standards from a 25 mph limit in a 35 mph zone, established by federal law in 1998. Read a Chattanoogan.com article about the legislation. NEV’s are rechargeable, battery-powered, low-speed vehicles. With brand names like GEM, Kurrent, Reva, Xebra, and Zenn, there are dozens of companies producing the vehicles world-wide.
