Authorities Say No Indication Of Foul Play In Death At Cloudland Canyon State Park
posted July 24, 2008

Authorities said there is no indication of foul play involved in the death of a Rock Spring, Ga., woman whose body was found Thursday at the foot of a cliff at Cloudland Canyon State Park.

A search had been underway in rugged terrain at the park on Lookout Mountain since 45-year-old Judy Payne disappeared on Monday.

The body was being sent off for testing involving the manner of death.

The body was found at the base of a cliff with a 200-foot drop.

Mrs. Payne had been missing since she left for work in Chattanooga on Monday morning.

Her black Miata was spotted in the park around 10:30 p.m. Monday. Her purse and cell phone were in the vehicle.

Park officials called the woman's husband, Mark Payne, who is an EPB employee. He said he last saw her when she left for work.

The search involved both use of helicopters and ground units, and the park remained closed.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation was involved in the search and handling of the case.
