Bank Teller Who Was Addicted To QVC Shopping Channel Faces Embezzlement Charge
posted July 29, 2008

A bank teller in Copperhill, Tn., who authorities say was addicted to the QVC Shopping Network is facing federal embezzlement charges.

Authorities said Cassandra Ryder took over $113,000 from the Branch Bank and Trust from Jan. 5, 2005, to Sept. 19, 2007.

Prosecutors said all the funds were taken from one account - a friend of Ms. Ryder, who never checked her bank statement.

The woman had received money from an inheritance, and Ms. Ryder prepared withdrawal tickets from the account, but kept the money for herself, it was stated.

The theft was discovered last Sept. 20 when the woman tried to withdraw money from her account, and it was found there was a negative balance.

Ms. Ryder, who has agreed to plead guilty, said she often made purchases from QVC with the embezzled funds.
