Memorial And Parkridge CEOs Among Panelists At MidTown Chamber Healthcare Forum
posted August 5, 2008

CEOs from Memorial and Parkridge will be among six panelists at the first Chattanooga Area Chamber of Commerce MidTown Council Healthcare Forum.

The program will be held on August 13 at Out of the Blue Café and Kites, beginning at noon. Out of the Blue is located at 3230 Brainerd Road near the Brainerd Tunnels.

Invited forum panelists include: Paula Register, CEO of Memorial Health Partners; Mark Sims, CEO of Parkridge East Hospital; Rae Bond, Director of the Medical Society and Foundation; Barbara Weinhold, Volunteers in Medicine; Paula Hensel, Healthcare Career Counselor at Virginia College; and Michael Matthew, Instructor at Chattanooga State (Eastgate Campus).

"Like other areas in Chattanooga, the MidTown Chamber Council area, which includes Brainerd, Glenwood, and Highland Park, has important healthcare issues," says John Bailes, MidTown Chamber Council President. "These will be addressed at the forum. And so will the questions of our guests attending our luncheon, who will be able to provide questions to our panelists.

"Our panel has a very rich background in healthcare, and they will provide us with a better understanding of healthcare costs, accessibility, and opportunities in our area. Midtown includes two major hospitals, several large healthcare clinics and nonprofits, and a myriad of physician and dental services."

Memorial Health Partners CEO since 2004, Register is also Vice President of Memorial Health Care System's Physician Services Division, which includes the recruitment and management of over 140 physicians in the Hamilton County area. Register's experience in finance and healthcare spans more than 20 years.

Parkridge East CEO since 2004, Sims is also CEO of the Parkridge Valley Behavioral Health Facility. Before joining Parkridge, Sims was CEO of Grandview Medical Center in Jasper.

Bond directed both the Medical Society and the Medical Foundation from 1994-1997. Bond returned as director of the Medical Foundation in 2003 to help start Project Access, which makes healthcare available to low-income, uninsured residents of Hamilton County. In 2005, she again became director of the Medical Society. Previously, she was founding president and executive director of First Things First and directed the Tennessee Municipal League.

Former Clinic Director of Volunteers in Medicine, Weinhold was instrumental in founding the organization, which utilizes retired healthcare professionals to provide free medical services to low-income area residents.

Anyone interested in joining the Chamber's MidTown Council is welcome to call Council Vice President of Membership Michael Itson at 423 505-1997.
