Featured Pet: Max posted August 6, 2008
Black dogs may suffer from the same lingering superstitions about black cats, which are also hard to adopt out. Their dark color may make them seem ominous and threatening. They may simply be less noticeable, which is why some shelters have started putting brightly colored ribbons and bandanas on their black dogs. Max is a local Labrador Retriever mix dog who has a short, smooth - and gorgeous - black coat. He knows nothing about the subtle mental predilections that lead people away from black dogs. He is no Grim, he doesn't have green eyes, he's not a spectral hound with foaming mouth haunting the moor. Max is a lovable hugmuffin. If you fear friendly and likable dogs, Max is not for you. He is happy and playful. Since Max is not a small dog, he needs someone who can provide him with the space and time for play and exercise. Kennel workers note that Max is also good with other dogs. He is waiting for adoption at the Humane Society at 212 N. Highland Park Avenue (ID A05324492). Kennel hours are 11-4 Monday-Wednesday and Saturday. Thursday hours are 11-6. Friday hours are 12-4. The phone is 624-5302. To volunteer at the Humane Society, call 624-5302 or email hesvolunteer@comcast.net. Compiled by Michael Locke
