Danny Dorn connects on the first of two home runs in Wednesday's marathon.
Wednesday night’s match-up between the Lookouts and Smokies was an offensive display of hitting and power. Marco Carrillo, who made his debut for the Smokies, earned the win despite yielding nine runs in five innings of work. After the dust settled, the Smokies had an 18-16 win over the Lookouts.

Lest you think this was a football score, we remind you that the two teams involved are Double-A affiliates of Major League clubs. This baseball game resulted in 39 hits and 34 runs.

Chattanooga began the hit parade in the first by scoring three runs on a Danny Dorn three-run shot over the left field wall.

Jake Fox led off the top of the second for the Smokies with a home run and the race was on. After a Tyler Colvin walk, Kyle Reynolds cut the deficit to 3-2 on an RBI double.

The Lookouts countered in the second with four runs. Craig Tatum reached on a throwing error by shortstop Matt Camp and advanced to second on the play. After two outs were recorded, Sean Henry scored the first run of the inning with a double. Drew Stubbs plated Henry by nailing a single to center.

Dorn then hit his second homer of the evening, giving the Lookouts a 7-2 edge.

The Lookouts' lead quickly evaporated in the third, as the Smokies scored six runs to take the lead. Four singles and a walk prefaced a Josh Lansford three-run homer to account for the damage.

Chattanooga reclaimed the lead in the bottom portion of the third by scoring a pair of runs. A trio of singles by Chris Valaika, Justin Turner, and Drew Anderson led to the two-run inning.

The see-saw pace continued in the top of the fourth. Fox led off with his second homer of the night to knot-up the score. Tyler Colvin followed with a triple, and singles from Kyle Reynolds, Blake Lalli, and Marco Carrillo contributed to a four-run inning and 12-9 advantage for the Smokies.

After an unusual fifth inning where neither team scored, B.J. Szymanski hit a solo shot for the Lookouts to cut the deficit to 12-10 for Chattanooga.

Tennessee finally jumped on the scoreboard again in the seventh by scoring three more runs, highlighted by a Doug Deeds two-run shot over the right field wall.

Despite being down 15-10 entering the eighth frame, the Lookouts put a dent into the Smokies’ lead by scoring three more runs. Turner began the inning with a single, and Tatum followed with a two-run blast. Anderson continued the rally with a single and advanced to second on an Edward Campusano wild pitch. Michael DeJesus followed with a single to put the score at 15-13.

Tennessee scored three insurance runs in the ninth. RBI doubles from Deeds and Reynolds highlighted the rally for the Smokies. The Lookouts, however, would not go down without a fight. Eric Eymann led off with a hit by pitch and proceeded to second on a Valaika single. After a Turner walk, Tatum singled to score two. Anderson singled to load the bases. After two outs were recorded, Drew Stubbs singled to drive in an additional run.

Down 18-16 with the bases loaded, Dorn blasted a deep ball to center, but Tyler Colvin ran just short of the deep wall to record the final out of the game.
