The Peanut Man And The Icee Man posted August 7, 2008 Re: Planters Peanuts article: Thank you so much for your article in the Chattanoogan.com. It brought back such memories of my childhood also. The kids today do not get to experience a very large peanut man walking down the street handing out bags of peanuts free to them. Nor do they get a specially made loaf of bread just made for kids. The milk man gave my brother and I a pint of Happy Valley milk sometimes. I still have one of their bottles. The ice man would always break off a small piece of ice for us. Mercy, have times changed. I live in the Cedar Hill community which was an upper class neighborhood back then and Rossville Boulevard was full of life, even had a Crystal Restaurant where Roy's is now. If you want something from an "Icee Man", you must be very careful. We do have one that is totally safe with his Jeep, umbrella, and siren that serves several communities around this area. Some day some one will be looking back and reminisce about those icees they once bought from a man driving a Jeep with an umbrella on it. Enjoy it while you can. Lee Tripp |
