Chattanooga Electric Rates May Catch Up To Memphis
posted August 7, 2008

Since I moved to Chattanooga, I have always been amused when electricity rates become the topic of conversation. The electric utility users in this area have long been spoiled by low electric rates, thanks to TVA and federal government support.

Now that TVA is being required to pay their own way, the users are going to have to pay their way.

Electrical rates for Chattanooga are less than $0.09 per kWh. I was used to paying double that, around $0.18 per kWh. Try calculating your bill at that rate, then give thanks that you are not having to pay that much.

Memphis Light, Gas and Water has a very interesting comparison chart on their website. I did find it interesting that Chattanooga's water rate was double the rate of Memphis.

This chart compares electricity, water, natural gas and wastewater rates in 50 selected cities.
