Ms. Cynthia Wallace, project director of the Educational Opportunity Center, has secured $263,047 from the U.S. Department of Education to continue this significant educational outreach program. Housed within UTC's Center for Community Career Education, the EOC provides a route to higher education for area adults who face economic challenges.
The EOC addresses chronically low levels of adult educational attainment, the challenges of poverty, and high unemployment levels in Southeast Tennessee and Northwest Georgia. Ms. Wallace and the program staff provide assistance with college applications and the financial aid process, career, educational, and personal counseling, and technology access and training.
Since its inception in 1998, the EOC has helped thousands of individuals in the Southern Appalachian region to achieve their academic and employment goals.
