Wildwater Rafting will host their second annual Raft For The Cure fundraiser for breast cancer research on Sunday, Aug. 24. Wildwater Rafting is the only adventure company in the Southeast using this avenue to raise money for breast cancer.

"We've combined a very popular activity with an easy way to donate to a great cause," says Jeff Greiner, Wildwater vice president and son of Wildwater's founder. In 2007, Wildwater raised over $11,000 which was donated to the Susan G. Komen organization.

Raft for the Cure is a grass-roots effort initiated by Wildwater Rafting. "With an estimated 182,460 new cases of breast cancer among U.S. women during 2008 we felt that this was a necessary cause to support," said Mr. Greiner. "What's great about the Komen organization is they also concentrate on keeping donations close to home. We are working with the Chattanooga affiliate and they are fabulous about spreading the word about our event."

One-fourth of all Ocoee trips on Aug. 24 will count towards Wildwater Rafting's donation. Wildwater will be offering intermediate rafting trips throughout the day at their Ocoee River location. The price of $44 for either a middle or upper guided trip includes an $11 donation. All trips are included in the fund raising event. A special trip at 2 p.m. is designated for the Raft For The Cure rafting guests and sponsors. A reception will follow with refreshments, presentation of the donation and an honor ceremony.

Space is limited. Donations may also be made by calling Wildwater Rafting at (877) 247-5535.

Wildwater Rafting is a family-owned business and is the first outfitter in the Southeast, founded in 1971 on the Chattooga River. Still owned and operated by the Greiner family, Wildwater runs trips on five rivers in the southeast, offers lodging at two locations, a restaurant at the Ocoee, and food services at all five river locations.
