Chattanoogans Should Be Thankful For Cheap Power
posted August 7, 2008

I'm amazed at how everyone is getting so upset about TVA raising rates. Chattanoogans should be thankful they have some of the lowest electricity rates in the country.

In Texas, utilities are deregulated and we have a choice in retail electric providers, which is supposed to result in lower rates. The best rate I found is 15.1 cents per kWh with a one-year contract. Without a contract, rates are up to 19 cents per kWh.

Rates have been increasing steadily in Texas, much more than TVA's proposed increases. I was amazed when I asked my parents what they pay in Chattanooga and found out it was still less than 9 cents per kWh.

Be grateful you live where TVA provides the power.
