A Marion County woman died in a freak accident on Wednesday afternoon when she was thrown from the back of a pickup truck.
Molly Nelson, 18, was in the back of the truck that was being driven by Marion County Deputy Matt Blansett, who was off duty. He was helping her move.
Authorities said a gust of wind may have shifted a mattress and box spring, causing the mattress to fall out and Ms. Nelson to also tumble from the truck.
She landed in a ditch and suffered a fatal head injury.
Authorities said the deputy was not speeding or driving recklessly and will not face charges.
Ms. Nelson was a 2008 graduate of South Pittsburg High School.
