Former state Democratic Party chairman Bob Tuke will be facing incumbent Republican Lamar Alexander in the U.S. Senate race.

Tuke is a partner in the law firm of Trauger & Tuke in Nashville.

He is a former Marine officer who fought in Vietnam.

One of his opponents, Mike Padgett of Knoxville, said, "My hearty congratulations go out to Bob Tuke tonight.

“Bob is a true Tennessee hero, and he ran a gentleman’s campaign. I have offered him my full support because we both understand how important it is to working Tennesseans that Bob bring Lamar Alexander home.”

Gary Davis of Nashville, who had run against Harold Ford in 2006 but who spent no money in this contest, was the top votegetter in Hamilton, Bradley and Rhea counties in the Democratic primary.

Sen. Alexander, the former governor, was unopposed in the primary.
