Alan Rhody Plays At Charles And Myrtle's Aug. 16 posted August 8, 2008
Review for Alan Rhody: Alan Rhody's music has taken him to every corner of North America, to the stages of festivals, concert halls, schools, coffee houses, saloons, universities, house concerts and network television and radio. And though his songwriting has won him numerous accolades, Rhody still loves the connection made at live shows. "There's something very special that happens between audience and performer, when the artist not only sings of situations or tells stories with the music, but he or she has the opportunity to completely convey the passions and sensibilities of that story or that moment," he said. "That's where I'm most comfortable." With "Boxcars Of Memories" (Ashwood Recordings), his eighth and newest release , the Kentucky native gives us an intimate tour, a wide-ranging emotional chart of one of the standout solo artists today, in that great expanse known as the singer-songwriter. Six new Rhody originals including the hard-hitting "The Truth" and "Tryin' to Find A Feelin' ." Plus Alan's unique take on covers by Paul Siebel, Kris Kristofferson, Bob Dylan and Philadelphia's Freddy Pompeii. His two previous releases have included guest spots from John Prine, John Hartford, Maura O'Connell, Jamie Hartford and Gillian Welch partner, David Rawlings. Charles and Myrtle’s Coffeehouse is located inside Christ Unity Church at 105 McBrien Road. |
