Planning Commission Defers Action On Walker Project In Apison
posted August 11, 2008

The Planning Commission on Monday deferred action on a zoning request by builder Don Walker for a project in Apison.

A number of neighbors with concerns about the project, including County Commission Chairman Bill Hullander, were at the meeting.

Mike Price, an engineer who usually speaks for developers, was representing the neighbors, and he asked for a 60-day delay, which was granted.

Mr. Price said there were a number of questions about the project on 36 acres at 10723 London Lane.

The developer is planning some 90 single-family homes at the hilly site.

Mr. Price said some of the lots were only 60 feet wide, which he said was much smaller than most lots in that vicinity.

He said the only open space designated for the project was two detention ponds.

Mr. Price said the development as planned would add almost a thousand cars a day to the two-lane London Lane.

He also asked for a deceleration lane and that there be only one entrance to the project.

Jack Benson, a member of the commission, said the planning agency needed more specific language regarding the open space requirement. He said one project on Davidson Road included the section under high-voltage power lines as its open space.
