Police Blotter: Robbery Foiled At Wendy's On Brainerd Road
posted August 11, 2008

The manager of Wendy's on Brainerd Road said a man tried to rob him at closing time, but he was able to avert the hold-up.

Ronnie Rhea said he was getting into his car after closing when a young black male came up to his car window. He said the man, who was armed with a black revolver, took his cellphone and ordered him out of the vehicle.

He said the man instructed him to go unlock the store. He said the man crouched by his vehicle while he did so.

Mr. Rhea said when he had opened the door, he hurried inside and locked the door behind him. Then he went into the back and called police. He said he saw the man leaving around the back of the store.

He said the robber was wearing a stocking cap and had a bandana over his face. He was about 5'8" and 150 pounds.

A man said he was robbed while parked at the laundromat at the Hickory Valley Apartments on Hickory Valley Road.

Ben Quan Zhu said a black male with shoulder-length hair came up and asked for a cigarette. He said the man then returned with two other black males and they were all displaying handguns.

He said they demanded money and he told them he did not have any. He said they made him drop his pants as they searched him.

They left after taking his cellphone and car keys.

He said they were all wearing dark black clothing and were ages 18-25.

A woman on Hendricks Street told police that 7-8 females came over "attempting to fight a guy who was inside."

She said the females picked up the mail box and threw it up the street.

They broke the storm door and began kicking on the door.

When they heard police sirens, they left - leaving a vehicle in the middle of the street.

While an officer was there, one of the females called, saying they would return as soon as police left and "cut your b-----s throat."
