Workshops On Incentives For Developing Commercial Buildings Scheduled
posted August 13, 2008

The first in a series of free workshops on incentives for developing commercial buildings in Chattanooga will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 26th, and again on Tuesday, Sept. 9th.

The one-hour, "Lunch & Learn" workshops will highlight $12 million in federal tax savings to be awarded this year for newly constructed or extensively renovated commercial buildings in the Renewal Community.

Both workshops will take place at noon in the Development Resource Center (DRC), 1250 Market Street, Conference Room 1-A. They are targeted at property owners, investors, business owners, real estate professionals, architects, lawyers, finance professionals, and others involved in developing commercial buildings that create new jobs for Chattanoogans.

Featured speakers are: (1) a developer/property owner who has received the tax savings on several local projects; (2) a tax attorney who specializes in the application process for this incentive; and (3) an expert who will review this year's applications for the $12 million tax incentive. During the workshop, participants will learn if they're eligible for the tax savings and how they can take advantage of it.

Building projects must be located in the Renewal Community, which includes some – but not all – communities with zip codes 37402, 37403, 37404, 37405, 37406, 37407, 37408, 37409 and 37410. In addition, the tax incentive is awarded to the business and/or individuals who own the property. Eligible building projects must be completed between January 1, 2008 and December 31, 2009.

To determine if your building project is located in the Renewal Community or to register for one of these workshops, contact Maria Noel at 423 425-3776 or noel_m@theenterprisectr.org. Lunch and workshop materials will be provided.
