New Public Art Set To Open On First Street
posted August 15, 2008

Seven new pieces of public art, chosen specifically for Chattanooga by the Public Art Committee, will be installed on Friday, Aug. 22.

This is the third juried sculpture exhibit to be displayed at First Street since the competition was established in 2004 under Mayor Bob Corker.

"Each sculpture will be leased from the winning artist for 18 months at a cost of $5,000," said Rachel Hildebrandt, director of public art. "The money is an industry standard fee that pays for the artist's materials and time required to produce and transport the piece to Chattanooga."

The artists who have won a spot in the Third Biennial Exhibit and where their exhibit will be displayed are:

J. Aaron Alderman of Brevard, N.C. at First Street
Garry Bibbs of Lexington, Ky. at First Street
Miggy Buck of Brooklyn, N.Y. at the Green
Hanna Jubran of Grimesland, N.C. at Renaissance Park
Cecilia Lueza of St. Petersburg, Fla. at First Street
Bret Price of Orange, Ca. at Phillips Park
Valeria Yamamoto of Bay Harbor Islands, Fla. at First Street.
