Chattanooga Airport Adds 2nd Daily Nonstop Flight To Dallas posted August 18, 2008 American Airlines has announced that it will add two nonstop flights from Chattanooga to Dallas/Fort Worth. Beginning Nov. 2, flights departing Chattanooga will be available at 12:30 p.m. and 5 p.m. Returning flight will depart from Dallas at 1:35 p.m. and 8:55 p.m. Mike Landguth, airport president and CEO, said, "Local travelers make Dallas a top destination every year. This additional flight will allow passengers more convenient options when heading west from Chattanooga and give passengers who frequent this flight more options when booking travel." The Dallas flights are operated by American Eagle on 50-seat regional jets. Meanwhile, Mr. Landguth said the recent loss of service to Houston and Fort Lauderdale cost the airport $293,000 in annual income. He said the airport was able to absorb the loss without raising charges. He said steps include a hiring freeze. Mr. Landguth said the flights were not lost because of a lack of passengers, but due to the skyrocketing cost of fuel for planes. He said some airports have lost over 50 percent of their service. He said the Chattanooga airport should receive a boost from the recent announcement about the Volkswagen plant. |
