Lookout Mountain Tops AOL Natural Wonders List
posted August 19, 2008

AOL Travel and the Travel Industry Association recently named "America's Amazing Natural Wonders." Ruby Falls and Rock City both made the top of the list. Ruby Falls was listed as number three on AOL's travel page and Rock City was number five. For the listing, visit http://information.travel.aol.com/tourism-week/natural-wonders.

This recognition follows last year's accolades of Ruby Falls taking the number four spot on RealTravel's "Top Ten Hidden American Treasures" list and being dubbed by GotoBus.com as one of the "Seven Natural Wonders in the U.S."

Rock City made the "Seven Wonders of the South" list by The Norman Transcript, out of Norman, Ok., and for decades has been tagged as the "World's 8th Wonder."

Ruby Falls is America's deepest commercial cave and largest underground waterfall available to the public. The highlight of the tour is the sparkling 145-foot waterfall flowing out of the roof of the cavern. Visitors can see the panoramic view from the Lookout Mountain Tower or relax on the mountainside deck with a snack. It is open daily from 8 a.m. – 8 p.m. for guided tours.

Rock City Gardens is one of the south's oldest and most popular natural attractions. Only minutes from downtown Chattanooga, Rock City is a true marvel of nature featuring massive ancient rock formations, a 140-foot waterfall that cascades down Lookout Mountain and a Swing-a-Long bridge that spans nearly 200 feet. It is open daily from 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. through Labor Day. Other features include a Starbucks, the Big Rock Grill, Fairyland Caverns and Mother Goose Village.
