Erlanger Health System recently became the first hospital in southeast Tennessee to join the Tennessee Clinical Placement System.
TCPS, an on-line service offered by the Tennessee Center for Nursing, is an effort to bridge the gap between students at partnering nursing schools and healthcare facilities in hopes to strengthen healthcare education in the state of Tennessee.
According to Beth Scott, clinical development specialist at Erlanger, the program brings clinical facilities, like Erlanger, and nursing schools together in order to place students for learning opportunities. "This program will allow us the opportunity to select and attract some of the best healthcare professionals from programs across the state in hopes that they will return after graduating and join our team," said Ms. Scott.
In the past, facilities and nursing programs faced multiple barriers that made securing placements in a timely manner difficult. Knowledge of potential open placements, the time required to secure placements, and redundant and time consuming orientation all stood in the way of getting students placement in facilities quickly.
TCPS will also provide Erlanger with the opportunity to collaborate with nursing schools, apply for education-related grants, and identify healthcare clinical education trends.
Erlanger currently has clinical affiliation agreements and provides placement for five nursing schools, two licensed practical nursing schools, two EMS programs, as well as three respiratory therapy programs and several allied health programs in the state.
