This year for the first time, The campus of The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga will have the opportunity to utilize extensive on-site recycling facilities to dispose of their waste materials in an environmentally sound manner.
Recycling bins provided by the University will be conveniently located throughout the campus and living areas for disposal of plastic drink bottles, mixed paper and aluminum cans. Resources will also be made available for vendors whose goods generate recyclable byproducts, such as cardboard from packaging, according to Martin Smith, Recycling Education Coordinator for Orange Grove Center.
Mr. Smith said, "Materials will be collected daily from the bins and deposited in a portable recycling facility and brought back to the center for processing.
"For Orange Grove, we are delighted to have the opportunity not only to collect the recyclable materials and keep them out of the landfill, but also to continue our campaign to educate the people of the Chattanooga area on how to recycle the right way. The new jobs this partnership is creating for our citizens with developmental disabilities are invaluable. No doubt, this will be another success story for the clients served by Orange Grove Center and the Chattanooga Community."
Mayor Ron Littlefield said, "The City of Chattanooga's partnership with Orange Grove continues to be a success and their new partnership with UTC is yet another example of how recycling is working in our community."
