TSSAA Approves Changes In Wrestling Management Regulations

HERMITAGE, Tenn. -- The TSSAA Board of Control approved several changes in wrestling managements regulations during its meeting here this week.

Article I, Section D. 4 Any male or female wrestler whoe body fat percentage at the time of measurement falls below 7% male/12%female must wrestle at the weight class where they fall less 2% of their alpha weight.

Article V, Section A. At each weigh in, all coaches must present an alpha weight chart and a pre-match weigh-in form of their team to the host administrator/coach. If alpha weight charts are not exchanged, wrestling shall not take place. The
host school should make every effort to accommodate the opposing coach who does not have their alpha sheet upon arriving to the host site.

Ariticle V, Section D. In the event that any wrestler exceeds the 1.5% weekly weight loss as computed by the NWCA program and competes at a lower weight class plan, his or her win(s) will be vacated. Any points scored by the violating wrestler
will be removed. If a wrestler violates the 1.5% weekly weight loss program but does not change weight classes, there is no violation.

In other action by the Board of Control:

1. Approved of Minutes of the last meeting

2. Authorized the Executive Director to select sites and make plans for conducting
regional and state tournaments or meets in golf, tennis, cross country, track, baseball,
softball, volleyball, wrestling, soccer, and bowling.

3. Approved the Financial Report of Baseball

4. Approved Financial Report of Softball

5. Approved Financial Report of Soccer

6. Approved Financial Report of Track

7. Approved Financial Report of Tennis

8. Took No Action on the Spring Fling Report

9. Approved the Budget for the 2008-2009 School Year

10. Reviewed the Cooperative Programs Approved for the 2007-2008 School Year

11. Reviewed the Marketing Program

12. Reviewed Coordinators’ Meeting

13. Approved to pay the first year’s membership fee ($30) to the National Federation
Coaches’ Association for the Tennessee State Winners of the NFHS Coaches Award Program.

14. Heard the Report on Officials’ Basketball Camps

15. Reviewed the Financial Aid Report for the 2008-2009 School Year

16. Denied the Class AAA District 8 Request to change the coaching box in basketball
from 6-feet to 14-feet.

17. Approved East Hamilton Middle-High School’s Request for Membership in TSSAA
effective beginning with the 2009-2010 school year.

18. Approved Lancaster Christian Academy’s Request for Membership in TSSAA effective
beginning with the 2009-2010 school year.

19. Denied the Bowling Proposal from White Station High School regarding the substitution
rule

20. Approved Riverside Christian Academy’s Request for Membership in TSSAA effective
beginning with the 2009-2010 school year.

21. Cloudland High School Appeals Disciplinary Action.

22. Denied Cookeville High School’s Request to Change the Baseball Tournament Regulations.

23. Wrestling changes (see above).

24. Voted to gather the 2008 20-day fall enrollment figures from member schools
for the purposes of classification.

25. Approved the Proposal from Tennessee Athletic Coaches Association regarding
Sports Advisory Committees.

The TACA is submitted a proposal to the Board of Control for Sports Advisory Committees
in the following sports: football, cross country, golf, volleyball, soccer, wrestling,
bowling, basketball, baseball, softball, track, and tennis.

The Sports Advisory Committees would be made up of up to nine representatives selected
by Tennessee Athletic Coaches Association in each sport. The representatives would
be from each of the nine athletic districts in the same manner as the Board of Control
or Legislative Council.

The five fall sports would be responsible for meeting, with recommendations being
brought to the Board of Control in each of these sports at the January meeting.
This would include soccer. The three winter sports would submit their recommendations
to the Board of Control at the June meeting, and the spring sports would bring their
recommendations at the August meeting.

In addition to the nine members on the committee, there would be a representative
from TACA (normally Bill Marbet or Jason Lovell of their staff) and a representative
from TSSAA (normally the person responsible in that sport) in attendance at the
meeting. The purpose would be to allow recommendations from coaches through a committee
process in each of the sports involved through the Tennessee Athletic Coaches Association.

27. Heard the report of the Hall of Chamions Committee

28. Approved the request for State Association Adoption in Volleyball. The approved
request allows line judges for volleyball matches to be allowed the option of using
flags as part of their duties as line judges.

29. Approved the request for membership by South Gibson High School effective beginning
with the 2009-2010 school year.

30. Approved the appeal of Gibson County High School regarding enrollment numbers
that will determine classification. The appeal is a result of the new South Gibson
County High School opening in the fall of 2009 which will cause Gibson County High
School’s enrollment numbers to drop.

31. Approved the appeal of Cocke County High School and Cosby High School regarding
the Cooperative Program.
