A Major Flameout For Fight The Hike posted August 20, 2008 So, all the hoopla around Randy Baker and Fight the Hike comes down to handful of customers showing up to protest the Tennessee American Water company rate hike. I would have expected to see many, many realtors show up because they are members of Fight to Hike. Where was the head of their organization? And where were the leaders of the NAACP and the Urban League? Not only were they not present, but there were none of their constituents present. From talking to friends at the courthouse, there appeared to be as many people there supporting the water company as there were opposing it. How can that possibility be true? Of course, I read today where Mayor Littlefield came and gave his opinion that the water company doesn't need any rate increase, ever. I would bet that when the truth comes out, it was our tax dollars who paid for Fight the Hike. I went to the Fight the Hike website expecting to see photographs of hundreds of people with signs rallying at the courthouse, but there were none. I just don't get it. The newspaper and television stations made it sound like there were hundreds if not thousands of people who would be present to pound on the water company. But that was not the case. Maybe Randy Baker needs to rename the organization Fight the Hike Lite. Brian Buelher |
