Influencing The Top Cop - And Response posted August 20, 2008 If Billy Long was influenced by the cooperating witness, then why was he even the top cop in town? Attorney Summers has said Mr. Long was easily influenced into making these choices. Again I wonder why he was the top cop. Doesn’t the top cop understand the law? Doesn’t the top cop have his own mind to make up? It would not take being the top man to know counting cash made from drug sales, ‘knowing’ there are drugs in a bag, or knowing the money is illegally made to know they are bad, let alone being involved. I find it hard to believe Mr. Long did not know, or was influenced. Next time any drug dealer gets popped, they should have Attorney Summers as defense. This will ensure they will be made out to be influenced by bad people and did not know what they were doing, and walk free. Rene Anne Wood * * * Attorney Summers is asking for a psychological exam of the cooperating witness to help explain Sheriff Long's actions? I'm sorry, but this must have gone completely over my head. What could this possibly have to do with the sheriff's decision to break the law? The only thing I can figure is that the defense is going to claim that CW Overstreet is a Svengali or maybe even a sorcerer that cast a spell on Mr Long, thus causing him to commit a crime. Oh yeah, it wasn't "a crime" it was a crime spree that lasted for months. Shame on you, Mr. Overstreet. How dare you cause the high sheriff to do such things? What happened to personal responsibility? If you can't do the time, don't commit the crime. Ronnie "Rock" Land |
