Several New Restaurants Get Approval For Beer Licenses by Dana Wilbourn posted August 21, 2008 Several restaurants set to open in Chattanooga, appeared before the Beer Board on Thursday seeking approval for their consumer beer license. Red Robin Gourmet Burgers, set to open on Sept. 1, was approved for a consumer license. Kristen Kuenhast, representing the restaurant, told the board that the new restaurant at Hamilton Place Mall is one of over 400 restaurants in the chain which originated in Seattle, Washington and is headquartered in Colorado. Ms. Kuenhast said Red Robin is a casual dining restaurant known for gourmet burgers in a kid and family atmosphere. The restaurant is located outside Hamilton Place Mall at the food court entrance. Michael Louis Monen appeared before the board as the owner of Taco Mamacita located at 109 N. Market St. This is the site of the former Dirty Nelly’s. Mr. Monen said he was formerly associated with Sticky Fingers and is now opening this new casual dining restaurant. The building has been completely renovated, he said, and he hopes to open sometime between Sept. 1 and Sept. 3. The board unanimously approved the license. Joseph Daniel Dill, appeared before the board as the owner of Bushwood Restaurant located at 1201-A Hixson Pike at the corner of Tremont St. He said his restaurant is like a bistro and will serve a variety of cuisine such as Italian and Caribbean. He emphasized to the board that Bushwood is a restaurant first and only has a small bar area. The board unanimously approved the license. Thelma Wallace, owner of B&W Snacks, also appeared before the board. This is a change of ownership and Ms. Wallace says she will serve kosher beef hot dogs and other snacks. The restaurant is located at 2716 Dodson Ave. The board approved the license. Louis Ortiz, representing La Onda Night Club & Lounge at 6175 Airways Blvd., told the board that this establishment is in the former Rock & Country Club. The board approved the license. Board member Christopher Keene addressed all new consumer license holders and offered them a booklet that shows samples of all states driver’s licenses. He reminded them that the Tennessee driver’s license for minors has a red bar beside the driver’s picture on the license and has “Under Age 21” printed on it. He said it is not necessary to do any math to determine if they are under age. If anyone with such a license says they have had their 21st birthday, tell them, “go get new license,” he said. “Don’t take a chance.” Two special event licenses were approved by the board.
