Lady Mocs Soccer Hosts Tennessee in Gold Rush Opener Friday posted August 21, 2008 The Chattanooga women’s soccer team will open competition for all UTC sports this Friday when it hosts the University of Tennessee at Knoxville. The game will kick-off at 7 p.m. at the North River Soccer Complex and admission is free at all home soccer events this year. It has been 10 years since the two University of Tennessee systems schools have met on the soccer pitch and the first time in Head Coach J.D. Kzyer’s tenure. This will mark just the fourth meeting between the two schools and second in Chattanooga. Tennessee holds a 3-0 advantage over the Lady Mocs. Kyzer returns a slew of veterans including juniors Amy Schermerhorn, Chelsea Hurst, Arielle Lankford and Marlee Jenkins. Kyzer welcomes among his nine newcomers, keeper Allie Preston of A.C. Reynolds High School in Asheville, N.C. Preston set a school shutout record in her first two seasons at 24 games and added 14 more her senior year. Local players on the UTC roster include Allie Scales (GPS), Amy Schermerhorn (Notre Dame), Morgan Shelton (Ooltewah), and Jordan Middleton (Ooltewah). The Lady Mocs will look to make a return to the postseason this year after missing out the last two years. Fans are encouraged to show their support for the Lady Mocs by wearing GOLD to the game for Gold Rush! Rally towels will be given out to the first 200 fans inside the gate. |
