Lee Volleyball Receives AVCA Academic Award posted August 21, 2008 For the fifth straight year, the Lee University volleyball team is the recipient of the 2007-08 American Volleyball Coaches Association Academic Award (AVCA). The award honors teams who have matched their dedication to the sport of volleyball with excellence in the classroom. “Meeting the award standards is an accomplishment of which your team can be proud,” said Kathleen J. DeBoer, Executive Director of the AVCA. “It is our hope that your team will consider the AVCA Team Academic Award an annual challenge to achieve.” Coach Andrea Hudson has always stressed academics to her squads and noted, “Although volleyball is what brings our athletes here, they quickly learn that academics is emphasized more than winnings games. I am so proud of our squads. Many don’t realize the hard work it takes to achieve this type of award, while also being involved in all the travel and playing a rugged schedule.” To qualify for the AVCA award, a team must carry a cumulative 3.30 GPA for the entire 2007-08 school year. The Lady Flames will open the 2008 season on Aug. 29-30 and will be facing Bryan College, Colorado Christian and Mount Vernon Nazarene in the Bryan tournament in Dayton, Tenn. Lee will host the University of Alabama-Huntsville in the home opener on Sept. 8. |
